Rebecca and Sada Tarshis Memorial Scholarship Fund Rebecca and Sada Tarshis stunned the community in 2002 by leaving a surprise bequest of over $2.7 million to 14 organizations. Approximately $430,000 was left to OJCF to establish the Rebecca and Sada Tarshis Memorial Scholarship Fund. The scholarship provides tuition assistance to Oregon resident Jewish students for higher education, including college, university and/or graduate school, on the basis of financial need and academic merit with scholarships of up to $5,000 per recipient per year. Kailes established this fund in 1991, with the goal of providing scholarships for Jewish students in Oregon. Awards are given for tuition for Jewish enrichment and campership programs and for colleges or universities located in the state of Oregon.
